The Tom Currie Bible Class is named for Dr. Thomas White Currie, who became part-time supply pastor of Highland Park Presbybterian Church in 1932 while he was serving as President of Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary. Soon after becoming acquainted with the church, he recognized a need for more people to be involved in a serious study of the Scriptures. A large group of men immediately responded to Dr. Currie’s call and formed what became known as the Tom Currie Bible Class. Dr. Currie, its first teacher, became the inspiration for other teachers who would follow him.

In 2003 the Highlander-Pattee class joined the Currie Class as well. The Highlander Class was begun in 1934 by Herman and Virginia Pistor as a young couples class. The class was recognized for its faithful support of missionaries and children’s homes, as well as for its warm and supportive fellowship. The Edith Pattee Class began informally in 1945 as a class for young mothers. Originally known as the Presberean Class, it was renamed in 1965 for Edith Pattee, who taught the class until her death in 1968. In 1997 the Pattee Class joined with the Highlander Class.
